Dr. Dan Simionescu received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Targu-Mures, Romania. The event took place on December 14, 2017 in the historical Senate Hall of the University in the presence of numerous representatives of academia, clinical medicine and other special guests.

In his speech, Professor Dr. Leonard Azamfirei, the University President and Rector pointed out that the title of Doctor Honoris Causa “represents the highest honorary title that a university can give to someone" and is given to "individuals who have over time, demonstrated real and quantifiable involvement in the academic life of our university and has decisively contributed to the prestige of our university”.
